DANE COUNTY, Wis. (WKOW) -- The Dane County Board of Supervisors is releasing its amended budget proposal to help tackle the county's $31 million budget deficit.
On Tuesday, it released a budget compromise to address the issues that supervisors believe need attention right now.
Dane County Board Chair Patrick Miles says the deficit is not an issue that can be solved in this year's budget cycle.
"This budget recommendation focuses on the needs at hand that we can deliver on today, and we're cognizant of the issues down the road. As I said before, the structural deficit is a multi-year problem. We can't fix it in one year," Miles said.
County leaders said in a news conference on Tuesday that they are still on track to cut 4% of each department's budget, as well as lower expenses by 2.4%.
