NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - Tennessee’s new online-only utility assistance application system crashed Monday, its first day, leaving hundreds of residents unable to apply for help paying heating bills as winter approaches.
The Tennessee Housing Development Agency website was down for hours on Monday but returned to service on Tuesday. The Nashville Metropolitan Action Commission helped 300 people on Monday alone through the application. Despite the technical problems, 170 completed their forms.
“Today is a much smoother day. We haven’t had any outages, but still anything that’s new requires a little bit more assistance,” said Lisa McCrady Beverly with the Metropolitan Action Commission.
