PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — The entertainment rules in Providence — a city often hailed as the "Creative Capital" — have recently been updated to better match how restaurants, bars, artists and neighborhoods operate.
The Providence City Council announced Monday that its ordinance committee approved proposed amendments to the city's entertainment regulations. According to officials, the goal is to clarify what qualifies as entertainment, improve how events are regulated and ensure the city's noise ordinance continues to be enforced.
The definition of incidental entertainment has been expanded to cover background activities that are not the main attraction and do not require tickets, such as a small band playing during dinner. Establishments may now have several musicians, allow dancing and
