BELL COUNTY, Texas (KWTX) — A 39-year-old Gatesville man died Tuesday afternoon after crossing into oncoming traffic and striking a semi-truck while fleeing from deputies on Texas 36.
The Bell County Sheriff’s Office and Temple Police Department had been assisting Gatesville police with locating a man who was threatening self-harm and was wanted for investigation of assault causing bodily injury by impeding breath on a pregnant victim, authorities said.
At around 1:12 p.m., Gatesville police reported the man was possibly near White Flint Park by the “long bridge” on Texas 36 in a blue Dodge pickup truck, according to the sheriff’s office.
A U.S. Army Corps of Engineers park ranger located the man in the pickup and made contact, but the man drove off, authorities said. Deputies found the
