WICHITA, Kan. (KAKE) - A young man who was shot outside the Goddard Walmart and left paralyzed last year took the stand Tuesday in the trial for the man accused of pulling the trigger.

Ruben Contreras is charged with attempted first-degree murder and aggravated battery. Anakin Zehring, who is now 19, was shot on his graduation weekend in May 2024 . He testified that he and two other boys had gone to Walmart to grab food and charcoal before heading to Lake Afton. In the parking lot, one of them fired an Orbeez -- or gel blaster -- gun at employees and two teens in the parking lot.
