Kartik is the eighth lunar month in the Hindu calendar and is considered the holiest month, with its full moon day being celebrated as Kartik Purnima. It is a month of significant religious importance where many rituals and festivals, such as Tulsi Vivah and Bhishma Panchaka, culminate.

In the Vaishnava tradition, it is also known as the Damodara month, named after Lord Krishna. Kartik Purnima is one of the most sacred festivals in Hinduism, celebrated with great devotion across India. Many Hindus observe a holy dip in sacred rivers like the Ganges during the month of Kartik, starting from Sharad Purnima and culminating on Kartik Purnima.

Dev Diwali , also known as Diwali of Gods, is also celebrated on this auspicious day of Kartik Purnima, particularly in the holy city of Varanasi.
