SULLIVAN’S ISLAND — The town’s longtime Mayor Patrick O’Neil was leading in his bid to win reelection Nov. 4, according to unofficial results.
O’Neill ran unopposed on paper, but faced last-minute competition where 43 percent of the entire portion of the mayor’s race turnout Tuesday coming in the form of write-ins.
Residents cast their votes to decide their mayor and council members in an election that centered on maintaining momentum for current initiatives and adding new faces to Town Council.
Unofficial poll numbers indicate voters favored adding another term to the incumbent mayor’s decade-long tenure, although final numbers, including early voting totals, were not released by press time.
