LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The Federal Aviation Administration said UPS Flight 2976 crashed at about 5:15 p.m. on Tuesday near the Muhammad Ali International Airport in Louisville.
The plane crashed shortly after departing Louisville for Daniel K. Inouye International Airport in Honolulu. The aircraft involved was a McDonnell Douglas MD-11.
The flight number was UPS Flight 2976, operating from Louisville (SDF) to Honolulu (HNL). The FAA and NTSB are both responding to the incident.
LMPD and local fire departments reported fire and debris at the scene and are asking the public to avoid the area while crews are at work. A shelter-in-place is in effect for a five-mile radius.
