LOUISVILLE, Ky. —

With more than 186,000 people in Kentuckiana unsure where their next meal will come from amid the federal government shutdown, Kentucky leaders gathered Tuesday to support the region's food safety net.

Gov. Andy Beshear declared a state of emergency and released $5 million from the Budget Reserve Trust Fund to Feeding Kentucky food banks. Even with the emergency funds, uncertainty remains.

"We don’t really know what the next steps will be. We don't know if the federal government will choose to fight this order. We don't know how much funding will be released and when it will be released. That’s completely up to them," Lt. Gov. Jacqueline Coleman said.
