ROCKFORD, Ill. (WTVO) — An 11-year-old boy faces felony charges of attempted murder and aggravated battery of a firearm for the shooting of a 13-year-old girl in what police described as a "domestic incident" on Halloween.
According to Rockford Police, officers were called to a home in the 1000 block of Harlem Boulevard at 7:55 p.m. on Friday and located the shooting victim.
Rockford Mayor Tom McNamara issued a statement following the shooting, saying, “Last night, there was a shocking domestic incident of gun violence. I’m told the 13-year-old’s injuries are not life-threatening, which is absolutely the most important thing. It is a stark reminder that gun violence can happen anywhere, to anyone.
