Jill Davidson has won the Democratic primary for Providence’s Ward 2 City Council seat , according to preliminary results.

Davidson swept the race with 50% of the vote, beating David Caldwell Jr., Jeff Levy and Matt McDermott. She’ll run against the sole Republican candidate, Axel Brito, in the December general election.

The council opening arose when former Councilwoman Helen Anthony resigned in September due to health reasons.
