Mainers have enacted a red-flag gun law at the ballot box, with 58.8% of the vote. The Associated Press called the race at 9:55 p.m. on Nov. 4, 2025.
This means that family or household members and law enforcement may petition courts to remove guns from someone deemed dangerous to themselves and others.
The law doesn't replace the yellow-flag law already on the books, which requires law enforcement to take someone into protective custody and undergo a mental health evaluation before their guns may be taken away.
