SALEM, Ala. (WTVM) - A 54-year-old man has died this evening after a domestic violence call led to a brief pursuit with Lee County deputies.
Sheriff Jay Jones with the Lee County Sheriff’s Office said deputies received a call about a domestic violence incident on Lee Road 831 in the Salem community around 7 p.m. CST. Deputies responded to the area and observed a vehicle that matched the description of the vehicle involved in the domestic dispute.
When deputies attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver refused to stop. A short pursuit ensued that ended at Lee Road 240 and Lee Road 241.
As the vehicle stopped, the driver produced a handgun and shot himself. Deputies attempted to render aid, but the man died on scene.
