BLOOMINGTON – Darian DeVries never expected to coach his son.

The son, Tucker DeVries, grew up around basketball because of his father's then-job as an assistant coach at Creighton, but Darian never wanted or planned to get involved in the younger DeVries' basketball journey.

"He honestly said he never would," Tucker DeVries said. "He didn’t want to have to deal with it. He was just the parent that never said anything.

"Then I don’t know, I panned out a little better than he thought."

The elder DeVries confirmed this version of events. As a coach with three decades of experience scouting and developing players, he admits he missed badly on his own son.
