Mayor Malik Evans won a second term Tuesday night in convincing fashion.

The mayor beat out Republican challenger Louis Sabo, earning a heavy margin of the vote. Evans' re-election is not all that surprising: Rochester has not had a Republican mayor since 1973.

“Tonight marks not just a victory, but a renewed promise to Rochester’s future,” said Mayor Evans in a campaign statement, citing remarks to supporters. “I am deeply honored by the trust voters have placed in me to continue advancing our collective vision of a safer, stronger, and more vibrant Rochester.”
