GEORGETOWN, S.C. (WCBD)-The City of Georgetown is ushering in a new era of leadership and making political history along the way.
Unofficial results from Georgetown County Election Headquarters show Forward Party candidate Jay Doyle has won the city's mayoral race, becoming the first member of the party to hold the position in Georgetown.
Doyle, a longtime businessman, won six of the city's seven precincts, defeating incumbent mayor Carol Jayroe.
Doyle called his win "A victory for the people," saying it reflects residents' desire for bold change and a renewed focus on community needs.
"This is a victory for the people of the City of Georgetown. They actually got out and voted, and they took the city back," Doyle said.
