NIPSCO warns of carbon monoxide risk
NIPSCO on Tuesday urged customers to be aware of carbon monoxide, a danger the utility’s officials referred to as the silent killer that claims the lives of hundreds of Americans each year. November is Carbon Monoxide Awareness Month.
Carbon monoxide is an odorless, tasteless and noncorrosive gas that is produced when fuels (such as gasoline, wood, natural gas, propane or oil) burn incompletely.
Although natural gas does not contain carbon monoxide, it can be generated when there is insufficient oxygen for fuels to burn correctly.
NIPSCO shared the following tips:
• Get a carbon monoxide detector in your home on every level and in every room where someone sleeps. Remember to test and replace your detector batteries regularl
