Reacting to Republican losses in multiple US mayoral and gubernatorial races, including Democrat Zohran Mamdani’s victory in New York City , President Donald Trump, citing pollsters, claimed that the two main reasons for the defeats were his absence from the ballot and the ongoing government shutdown.
In a post on Truth Social, the President wrote, "'Trump wasn't on the ballot, and shutdown, were the two reasons that Republicans lost elections tonight,' according to pollsters."
Trump's post came shortly after Democrats swept a trio of races on Tuesday in the first major elections since he assumed office in January, giving the party a shot of momentum as it looks ahead to the congressional midterm elections next year.
