A light haze continued to blanket Delhi on Wednesday even as the city’s air quality showed marginal improvement, from “very poor” to “poor.” The overall Air Quality Index (AQI) stood at 230, according to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB).
Areas like ITO and Akshardham were worse off, with AQI levels touching 281 early in the morning. The air was slightly cleaner than Tuesday evening’s 291, but still far from healthy. This week, Delhi had gasped through three straight days of “very poor” air quality, recording AQI of 366 on Sunday and 309 on Monday.
A few monitoring stations had displayed alarming numbers. Alipur, Wazirpur, Bawana and Anand Vihar all reported “severe” pollution levels on Tuesday, with readings between 402 and 421.
