The Burrell Bucs ‘Cinderella’ season is alive and well.
The Bucs recorded upset after upset to punch a second-consecutive ticket to the WPIAL Class 2A Championship. Despite a tight 1-0 loss to Freeport, the Bucs opened up the PIAA tournament with yet another upset to keep their season alive.
Burrell defeated Erie Cathedral Prep, 2-1, to remain in the race.
“We liked the way we played on Saturday against Freeport,” Burrell coach Frank Nesko said. “We were tested in that game. We thought, if we played the way we played against Freeport, we’d be okay. The one thing we noticed about them is that they love to switch the field, so we took that away from them.”
