MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) — Mobile, a place known for letting the good times roll, may soon showcase its Mardi Gras roots on license plates statewide.
A new specialty license plate celebrating Mobile as the birthplace of Mardi Gras has recently been approved by the state.
To make it happen, Vice President Carol Danieli and her daughter formed the nonprofit, Birthplace of Mardi Gras Foundation.
“She wanted something different for a car,” Danieli said, explaining how her daughter first came up with the idea.
“And she said, 'Do you realize there isn't a Mardi Gras plate in the whole state of Alabama? And we're the original, you know, we're the birthplace of Mardi Gras.'”
To make it possible, the group formed a nonprofit and worked with a local artist, Ragan Windsor, to design the tag. The plat
