GRAND FORKS — The North Dakota Department of Transportation wants to hear from the public on plans for a future intersection redesign on U.S. Highway 2 in Grand Forks, just south of the airport, intended to make it safer.
This comes just over a year after a 6-year-old girl was killed in a crash as a passenger at that intersection, and now, her mother is calling for a more cost-effective approach.
The intersection has seen dozens of crashes in the last decade, and now the North Dakota DOT has two options for making it safer: a roundabout and a diamond-shaped interchange.
One of those crashes happened in June 2024, claiming the life of Nicole Louthain’s daughter, Katarina.
“What my question for them is, what price can you put on your child, on your loved one?” Louthain said.
