The $8 million Sen. Jim Justice, R-W.Va., reportedly owes the IRS could pay for approximately 1,333,333 individual SNAP benefits (formerly known as food stamps) for West Virginians.
People in West Virginia who depend on SNAP receive about $6 a day per person from the federal government. West Virginia receives around $48 million a month from the U.S. government for SNAP payments. That’s roughly $1,548,387 a day. The $8 million ostensibly owed by the Justices to the IRS could pay all of West Virginia’s SNAP recipients for at least five days.
But Justice and his businesses apparently — somehow — neglected to pay those taxes, as well as thousands of dollars' worth of county taxes in West Virginia.
