Hinduja Group Chairman Gopichand P Hinduja, who built the family business into a multi-billion dollar transnational conglomerate, passed away at 85.

He was unwell for the past few weeks and died in a hospital in London, PTI reported citing sources.

Gopichand who also served as Chairman of Hinduja Automotive, was fondly known as 'GP' in business circles.

He took over as the group's chairman after his elder brother Srichand's passing in May 2023.

In 1959, he had joined the family business shortly after graduating from Jai Hind College in Mumbai. He is also credited with leading the group's foray into power and infrastructure business in the early 1990s.
