IOWA CITY — Iowa City Council incumbents swept the City Council election, according to unofficial results Tuesday night.

Longtime Mayor Bruce Teague was re-elected by 37.02 percent of voters. Teague has served as mayor since 2020 and has been on the council since 2018.

More than 31.1 percent of voters re-elected at-large council member Megan Alter to her second term.

In the District B seat, Shawn Harmsen was re-elected after securing 53.78 percent of the vote.

In Iowa City, the mayor is elected by council members every two years, when a new council meets at the beginning of the calendar year.
