PORTLAND -- Maine voters have approved Question 2, the ballot measure to create an extreme risk protection order also known as a red flag law.

The referendum question sparked large debate this election over Maine's gun safety measures.

Members of the Yes on 2 Campaign gathered for a watch party in downtown Portland on election night.

According to the Executive Director of the Maine Gun Safety Coalition, which sponsored Question 2, this red flag law will empower families and law enforcement to go directly to a court when someone is in crisis, and if a court finds them dangerous, temporarily restrict their access to deadly weapons.
