The City of Priceville has appointed a new police chief following a city council decision not to reappoint former Chief Jerry Holmes. Sgt. Jason Wigginton will now serve as the department’s chief for the next four years.
The leadership change comes amid ongoing controversy within the police department. Earlier this year, Officer Garry Chapman was fired following a deadly police pursuit in September. However, the Priceville City Council later voted to reinstate him.
Chapman’s attorney, Scott Morro, told WAAY 31 that Chapman returned to work on Monday after serving a 120-hour suspension. Morro says he’s been calling for a change in city leadership since taking on the case.
