NewsNation anchor Chris Cuomo responded to the news in real time of Democrat Zohran Mamdani defeating his brother, former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo , to become New York City’s next mayor.

While co-anchoring his network’s live election coverage Tuesday night, the Decision Desk HQ quickly forecast Mamdani as the winner in the closely watched mayoral race — right before the Associated Press announced its projection .

“We have the call in the New York City mayor’s race at five past the hour after the polls had closed,” NewsNation’s Connell McShane said. “And Zohran Mamdani, the 34-year-old democratic socialist, is the winner as expected and will be the next mayor here in New York City.”
