SALT LAKE CITY — Davis County residents have reported an uptick in firearms thefts, according to the sheriff’s office. The amount has been so staggering that the department is referring to the thefts as a “crime spree” and warning residents to lock their vehicles at night.
In the past four months, officials reported 30 stolen firearms. Additionally, 58 vehicles have been stolen, officials said, and more than 300 vehicles were broken into.
In one August night alone, 14 vehicles were burglarized in Fruit Heights. That resulted in five stolen firearms and, in each instance, officials said the cars were unlocked.
“In the months following, similar crimes have been reported throughout Davis County, with additional firearms being stolen from unlocked vehicles,” Davis County officials said.
