BERNALILLO COUNTY, N.M. —
More than 149,000 people cast their ballots in the local election in Bernalillo County this year.
Voters lined up at 74 polling centers across the county with some lines wrapping around buildings.
Election results in Bernalillo County were delayed until shortly before 9 p.m. Tuesday due to long lines after the voting deadline. The deputy county clerk noted that municipal elections typically have low turnout, but the presence of multiple candidates for mayor and city council seats encouraged more people to vote.
"So, it depended on location. We did have persons in line as early as 7 a.m., ready to vote today so that was wonderful to see," Deputy County Clerk Kelli Baca said.
