Election results for Southwest Michigan on November 4 are mostly in.
In the city of St. Joseph, Lisa Vetne, Michael Fernandez, and Michael Sarola have been elected to the city commission. Vetne and Fernandez will serve four-year terms, while Sarola will serve a two-year term.
In Benton Harbor, Diedre Fields and Shaquille Turner have been elected city commissioners at large, beating out Duane Seats and Mary Alice Adams. Juanita Henry and Ethel Clark Griffin have been reelected to the city commission in Wards Three and Four, respectively. Neither were challenged.
A bond proposal for St. Joseph Public Schools has been approved by a margin of about 55% to 45%. Superintendent Kristen Bawks says the result “is a testament to the community’s commitment to their public schools.”
