Democrat socialist Zohran Mamdani made history on Wednesday by becoming the youngest and first Indian-American Muslim mayor of New York City. What grabbed the internet’s attention, however, was the Bollywood twist to Mamdani’s victory, as ‘Dhoom Machale’, the title track from the Bollywood movie ‘Dhoom’, played at the end of his first speech following the results.

Mamdani was seen waving at his supporters before walking over to his wife, Rama Duwaji, for a hug as the song plays in the background. He was later joined on stage by his parents – Ugandan scholar Mahmood Mamdani and Indian filmmaker Mira Nair.

The video of ‘Dhoom Machale’ playing at Mamdani’s victory celebration has left the internet stunned. A user on X (formerly Twitter) described it as Mamdani’s “unreal aura".
