WESTMINSTER — Legacy hasn’t won a state title in boys soccer.

That’s only tougher to chew on when reminded crosstown-rival Broomfield has won nine, which is more than anybody else in Colorado.

But perhaps, they dared to think on Tuesday, the breakthrough is just ahead.

“We know we’re a great team,” senior defender Alex Allen said after No. 4 Legacy beat No. 13 Broomfield, 2-1, in the second round of the 5A playoffs at North Stadium. “We just need to continue to show it.”

Earlier in the night, Allen kicked off a string of defining plays that pushed the Lightning (14-0-3) past their Broomfield brother and into Saturday’s quarterfinals at Englewood High School, where it will face No. 12 Cherokee Trail.
