Two promising and lightly raced three-year-olds prepare to take the first crucial step back when they return at Thursday’s Gosford meeting.

Hereward and Good Hotspur are both trained at Rosehill, and neither has run since May when finishing off sparingly raced and learning campaigns.

Ahead of a returning showdown in a Super Maiden Plate over 1200m, both are capable of lighting up the clock on very fresh ground.

Gosford hasn’t raced for nine weeks, and with dry and sunny weather set to provide a firm surface, the track should be in fast order.

Certainly Good Hotspur, an exciting colt by Group 2 winner Calyx in the Gerald Ryan and Sterling Alexiou stable, is capable of running time first-up for nearly six months.
