In a big win for Democrats, Zohran Mamdani was elected mayor of New York City in one of the most stunning political upsets in the city’s history.

The 34-year-old became New York City's youngest and first Muslim mayor. He will replace Mayor Eric Adams, who dropped his re-election bid in September but remained on the ballot.

Mamdani was a first-term New York assemblyman and a democratic socialist who polled an abysmal two percent as late as January.
