Veterans Day , celebrated on Nov. 11, is a day of celebration set aside to honor America's veterans for their patriotism, love of country, and willingness to serve and sacrifice for the common good, according to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs .
This Veterans Day, several restaurants will offer discounts or free food to those who are actively serving and retired from the military, and first responders. Proof of service such as a military ID often is required. Discharge papers, VA cards and veteran organization membership cards also can be used to prove service at most businesses.
