A groundbreaking study has found that walking as few as 3,000 steps daily can help slow the brain deterioration and mental decline seen in Alzheimer's sufferers.
The 14-year research revealed that cognitive decline was postponed by roughly three years in individuals walking between 3,000 and 5,000 steps each day, whilst those managing 5,000 to 7,000 daily steps saw a seven-year delay.
Dr Wai-Ying Yau, lead author on the study at Mass General Brigham hospital in Boston, said: "We're encouraging older people who are at risk of Alzheimer's to consider making small changes to their activity levels, to build sustained habits that protect or benefit their brain and cognitive health ."
