The quarter pole.

You’ll hear that phrase a lot since some Ontario Hockey League teams have reached the 17-game threshold of the 68-game schedule. Those that haven’t will get there this week.

But it’s not the quarter pole.

It’s a big beef of mine.

Horse racing fans will know the quarter pole is the marker on the track that signals to jockeys they are near the finish line — three quarters of the race is done.

So, no, we are not at the quarter pole of the OHL season. We are at the quarter mark.

And boy, do we have some surprises.
