CHENNAI: Actor and party president Vijay has been announced as the chief ministerial candidate for the 2026 Tamil Nadu assembly elections by the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK). The announcement was made at the TVK general council meeting held in Mahabalipuram. Vijay made it clear that TVK will not have an alliance with anyone in the elections and will directly confront the DMK. It is estimated that this has also put an end to the AIADMK's hopes of forming an alliance with the TVK.
