ROCK HILL – Republican Sullivan County Legislator Terry Bernado announced on Tuesday night that she will run for State Senate in the 51 st District next year.

The 51 st District includes all of Delaware, Schoharie, Sullivan, and Otsego Counties, as well as parts of Broome, Chenango, and Ulster. Republican Peter Oberacker has represented the 51 st District since 2022 but announced last month that he will challenge Democrat Josh Riley in the state’s 19 th Congressional District in 2026.

Bernardo lost a primary to Oberacker for the seat three years ago. Democrat Michele Frazier announced her intention to run again in the 51 st District seat in August. Oberacker defeated Frazier by a vote of approximately 91,282 to 62,485 in last year’s general election.
