Mobile’s Ronald McDonald House offers security, comfort and hope to families of children battling illnesses and medical challenges from southern Alabama and beyond. The circumstances that fill the 25-year-old charity’s rooms are hard, but the people who rest inside call it home.
Uriah residents Austin and Leah Johnson moved into the Ronald McDonald House following the birth of their oldest son, Callen, in September 2022. Austin described the giggling, 3-year-old boy running around the Ronald McDonald House’s living room as “a preemie of 27 weeks and one day” who entered the world through an emergency cesarean section and weighed 8.3 ounces.
