Embattled UFC Hall of Famer B.J. Penn has been arrested once again, this time for allegedly beating up a man early Tuesday morning in his hometown of Hilo, Hawaii.

According to ABC affiliate Island News, Hawaii Island police responded to an alleged assault at a home in Hilo at approximately 1 a.m. after a 45-year-old man called to report that Penn punched and kicked him multiple times before he was able to escape. The man went to a local hospital to be treated for his injuries. Police officers located Penn several hours later at approximately 11:50 a.m. and arrested him without incident.

Penn, 46, was charged with third-degree assault and released from jail after posting $1,000 bail. He's due to appear in Hilo District Court on Dec. 2.

This marks the fifth time that Penn, a former UFC two-division champion, has been arrested this year.

Penn was initially arrested in May on family abuse charges after he allegedly shoved his mother into a vehicle and stole her mail. He then was arrested three times since then for violating a protective order.

Penn has utilized his social media platform to share unusual posts and videos in which he claims his family members, including his mother, are imposters and not actually who they say they are. Penn's family members have said in court that they believe he is suffering from Capgras syndrome, a rare delusional mental disorder that is thought to be tied to brain injuries.

Penn's 32-fight MMA career spanned from 2001 to 2019. All but five of his bouts took place in the UFC.
