Following Tuesday night's victory romp for Democrats in elections across the country, congressional Democratic leaders have issued a letter demanding Trump come to the table to negotiate on ending the federal government shutdown — and trolled him by using one of Trump's signature social media phrases.
"We write to demand a bipartisan meeting of legislative leaders to end the GOP shutdown of the federal government and decisively address the Republican healthcare crisis," said the letter, signed by House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY). "Democrats stand ready to meet with you face to face, anytime and anyplace."
"Thank you for your attention to this matter," the letter concluded.
The shutdown, which has dragged on for weeks, currently has no resolution in sight as Republicans refuse to negotiate over extending health care subsidies until funding to reopen the government has already passed, which is a nonstarter for Democrats.
This comes amid reporting that, in a meeting at the White House, Trump expressed his fears to Senate Republicans that their stance on the shutdown contributed to GOP losses in Virginia, New Jersey, New York, Georgia, and elsewhere.
But it may not have been the only factor, as some political observers note Trump was hurt in New Jersey by his move to try to shut down funding for a key rail connection tunnel under the Hudson River important to the region's economic development.
