FOREST CITY, Iowa — A new facility for the Winnebago County Secondary Road Department has been completed north of Forest City on Highway 69.
This modern facility will serve the surrounding rural areas, including Mount Valley, Forest, and Linden Townships, housing key equipment such as motor graders and dump trucks.
The project began with a $1.5 million budget, funded by the secondary road fund and the sale of current properties. Winnebago County Engineer Scott T. Meinders said the net cost to the county, after utilizing county labor and selling properties, is approximately $423,000.
Previously, the department operated from three separate buildings, one needing extensive repairs. The new site offers a consolidated, energy-efficient space with all equipment stored indoors and a breakroom
