Hours after Indian-origin politician Zohran Mamdani scripted history by winning the New York City mayoral elections, Mumbai BJP chief Ameet Satam issued a controversial warning to voters ahead of local body polls, urging them to “stay cautious” and not elect a Muslim to power.
In a social media post that sparked a row, Satam wrote, “Just as the color of some international cities is changing, after seeing the surnames of some mayors and witnessing the Maha Vikas Aghadi's vote jihad, it seems necessary to stay cautious in the context of Mumbai..”
He further warned in Marathi, “If someone tries to impose a 'Khan' on Mumbai, it will not be tolerated! Wake up, Mumbaikars..!”
Satam’s remarks came just hours after Mamdani, a 34-year-old Indian-origin democratic socialist and son of filmmaker
