OTTAWA — Prime Minister Mark Carney wasted no time in spiking the football.

Speaking to reporters Wednesday morning from a City of Ottawa transit garage one day after his government’s inaugural budget , Carney’s first order of business was thanking former Conservative MP Chris d’Entremont for crossing the aisle to the Liberals, putting the government a tantalizing two seats away from a majority.

“I would like to thank my colleagues from the capital region for joining me, and I’d especially like to thank Chris d’Entremont, the Member of Parliament for Acadie-Annapolis,” Carney said, who alongside d’Entremont was flanked by cabinet ministers and Ottawa-area MPs.

“I’m honoured to welcome him as the newest member of our government caucus.”
