A manhunt is under way in London after two prisoners were wrongly released from the same jail.

A 24-year-old Algerian man was accidentally freed from HMP Wandsworth in south-west London on October 29 , but the mistake was only reported to the Metropolitan Police on Tuesday, the force said.

Sources confirmed that convicted sex offender Brahim Kaddour-Cherif was the missing prisoner while court documents show he was handed a six-week prison sentence in June after he pleaded guilty to possession of a knife.

It has also emerged 35-year-old William Smith, who was jailed for 45 months for fraud on Monday, was released from the Category B prison on the same day he was jailed. He is also being hunted.
