RICHMOND, Va. — Democrats swept elections across the country Tuesday night, and Virginia was no exception . In addition to taking the commonwealth's triplex, Democrats expanded their majority by at least 10 seats in the Virginia House of Delegates.
Tuesday's results left Virginia solidly blue. Despite scandals with attorney general candidate Jay Jones that seemed to mar chances for Democrats at the top of the state, Abigail Spanberger took the gubernatorial race, Ghazala Hashmi won lieutenant governor and even Jones overcame. Spanberger and Hashmi both won by double digits their races, and Jones is up by 6%.
Going into the election, Democrats held 51 seats and Republicans had 48 in the House of Delegates, with one vacancy. But Tuesday night, Democrats won at least 61 seats, with Republ
