Voters approved dozens of school referendums across Minnesota on Tuesday, giving their stamp of approval to millions in operating, building, and capital improvements for the state's public schools.
Across the state, 70 school districts had referendums on the ballot this year, amounting to $1.6 billion in potential tax levies, according to the Minnesota School Boards Association.
Voters in St. Paul approved a $37.2 million tax levy for one of the largest districts in Minnesota, an ask that was made due to uncertainty in federal funding, ongoing budget challenges, and a $50 million gap in state funding blamed on rising costs and “increased educational needs”.
