PORTLAND, Ore. (KPTV) - A man from Washington state has pleaded guilty to damaging a substation in Oregon in Nov. 2022.
Nathaniel Cheney, 31, from Centralia, pleaded guilty Tuesday to one count of damaging an energy facility. As part of his plea agreement, Cheney agreed to pay restitution in full.
Court documents state that on Nov. 28, 2022, Cheney and others caused $26,000 of damage to the Sunnyside substation in Clackamas by damaging the control equipment necessary for operation.
A federal grand jury indicted Cheney in March 2024 .
Cheney faces a maximum sentence of five years in prison, a $250,000 fine, and three years of supervised released. He is scheduled to be sentenced on Feb. 18, 2026.
